Hide and Seek Expert

I became an expert at Hide and Seek, because the longer it takes my kids to find me, the longer I get to nap.

When I made this ecard stating, “I became an expert at Hide and Seek, because the longer it takes my kids to find me, the longer I get to nap,” I may have been exaggerating.

There is no such thing as a long nap.

Unless you consider thirty-seconds of being slumped over and drooling to be a nap.

But hey:  I’ll take what I can get.

Today’s Playlist: Skylar Grey’s “Wear Me Out”

Skylar Grey "Wear Me Out" Quote: I'm just trying to see te world through my own eyes

Listening to “Wear Me Out” by Skylar Grey today.

It’s funny, because her songs really seem like the kind of thing I would have loved to discover when I was a teenager, but, even in my 30s, I still like them.

This particular one seems to mostly speak to my inner, rebellious youth but there are some lyrics that still hit home.

After all, even after all this time, I’m still trying to see the world through my own eyes.  Still trying to find my voice.

So I made a graphic with that particular quote, which I overlaid on some red wooden boards, because I got a kick out of the red piano in the middle of the woods.  :)

Rabbit Ears Writing Desk

rabbit ears writing desk

I’ve been creating a lot of rooms on Polyvore lately.  It’s a bit addicting.  Like creating a room or a wedding on Pinterest.

Anyway, this room (or vignette) features a writing desk and writer’s tools – a typewriter and coffee.  And an adorable T-Rex desk organizer.  Can’t forget that.  :)

I chose the modern walnut desk and chair to reflect the color of the bunny in the Rabbit Ears poster.  Because all of us writers are constantly searching for a place with the perfect reception from our writing gods.  Or daemons.

The rest of the posters are of a typology or logophile nature.  Throw in a few more fun accents and there you have it.

What do you think?  Could you write the next great American novel here?

“Make Your Own” Custom Chocolate Bars

Create Your Own Chocolate Bar from 3 Types of Chocolate and Over 100 Toppings!

Today, I discovered custom chocolate bars.

That’s right:  make your own Belgian chocolate bars by mixing and matching 3 types of chocolate and over 100 toppings.

I believe that “Sweet!” would be an appropriate response to this.  {Pun fully intended.}

Create Your Own Chocolate Bar from 3 Types of Chocolate and Over 100 Toppings!

Anywho, the combinations are endless, which I love.

You can add up to 5 toppings to make “recipes,” like Peanut Butter Jelly Time Chocolate Bar which includes a milk chocolate base and toppings of dried strawberries, butter toasted peanuts, peanut butter drops, and gushers.

Heck, you can even go the extra mile and add a “Congratulations” plaque and a candle.

Create Your Own Chocolate Bar from 3 Types of Chocolate and Over 100 Toppings!

Some of the ingredients which most intrigue my taste buds include:

Diced Ginger
Himalayan Sea salt
Pumpkin Spice
Dried Raspberries
Nerds
Sour Patch Kids
Cookie Dough
Pop Rocks
23 Karat Gold Flakes
Crystallized Violet Petals
Bacon
Monkey Munch

The list goes on…

Create Your Own Chocolate Bar from 3 Types of Chocolate and Over 100 Toppings!

And I mean, seriously, does anyone really NOT know someone who wouldn’t want a pumpkin spice chocolate bar?

I’m thinking that I’d love to try the dark chocolate base topped with violet petals and gold flakes.

What about you?  What would you try?  What would you craft as a gift for a loved one?

Let me know!  (And don’t forget to check out all the ingredients for the Create Your Own Chocolate Bar on Zazzle!)

Today’s Playlist: Christina Perri’s Human

Christina Perri "Human" Lyrics Quote

Been listening to “Human” by Christina Perri today.

I can’t really decide if the song is depressing or inspiring.  But I like it.

I’ve made a meme/graphic/whatever with some of the lyrics.  {above.}

And these lyrics, these words, help me remember that I am only human and can only take so much.  It helps to be reminded of that during this never-ending divorce process.

That it’s okay to cry {fall apart} sometimes.

It’s okay to be human.

Our Easter Resurrection Garden

Easter Resurrection Garden

The Easter Resurrection Garden is a craft that’s been floating around Pinterest for awhile, and this year, I decided to make one with my girls.

They love gardening, and physical, interactive representations of stories are a great teaching tool.

Ever since we made the Garden, my daughter has been talking about it and asking me to tell Jesus’ story every time we to out into the backyard.

Plus, it gave them an opportunity to get their hands dirty.  Pretty much an “all win” in my book.

So, here is our version of the Easter Resurrection Garden:

Easter Resurrection Garden

There are a lot of variations of this on the Net, and most of them include grass.  We used flowers instead.

That may not make it geographically correct, but it matched our garden.

Anyway, the tools (which you see above) are pretty simple:  some sort of large flower pot, a tiny flower pot, a rock, potting soil, and whatever embellishment you’re going to use, be it flowers or grass seed.

Fill your large pot with the soil, dig a bit of a hole to make room for the tiny pot, lay the tiny pot on its side, and cover it with the soil so that only the top of the pot is showing.  This represents the cave.  Place the rock near the mouth of the cave and add your embellishments.

Easter Resurrection Garden

My oldest daughter added even more flowers to her Resurrection Garden.  She wanted some pink in there to go with the purple.

But, no matter how you decorate your garden, the main point is that you can use it to illustrate Jesus’ resurrection by removing the rock to show the empty “cave.”

I suggest reading a few Easter books, too, which is what we did.  It was nice to go back and forth from our Garden to the colorful illustrations of the Easter story.  Like these:

The Neutral Newlyweds

neutral newlyweds

The Neutral Newlyweds is a Polyvore set that I created around some matching pillows from one of my Zazzle stores:

His & Hers Pillows “His”

His & Hers Pillows “Hers”

I always liked these pillows because they were sleek and understated, but still fun.

They nicely accent other neutrals, so I surrounded them with elegant furnishings in brown, white, and silver.

I’d love to hear your feedback!

Words of Wisdom Art

Awhile back I came across this picture on Pinterest:

i am made of shattered stars

I followed to a page selling art (get it here) and discovered that it was a quote from Alexandra Franzen.

Curious, I visited her blog, and have been following her ever since.

She has a way with words that I find to be continually inspiring.

And today I just wanted to share some Franzen-inspired artwork by Kent Youngstrom.  He has a whole series based on the way Alexandra puts words together.  These are my favorites:

You can find the rest of the Words of Wisdom art at Gilt.

Miami Beach & Home

miami beach & home

My latest Polyvore venture is called “Miami Beach & Home,” a name inspired by the Miami Beach poster hanging next to the window with the ocean view and the sculptures on the coffee table.

I picked a sofa to match the colors in the poster and then played around with fun pillows and accents in a variety of colors that seemed somewhat tropical and modern to me.

It’s purposely eclectic.  Supposed to be fun.

Eating My Feelings

Some days are just one of those days.

Today is that day.

But don’t worry – I’ve got everything under control now: I’ve raided the kitchen.

Here are some of the feelings I’ve been feeling while digesting my feelings.

Don't try to tell me that hungry is not an emotion because I feel tht shit in my soul.

30 Rock: I'm gonna go talk to some food about this.

I'm eating my feelings and they taste delicious.

My face when I see food.

These cookies are mine. ALL MINE.

I'm sad when my food is over.

I’m glad we’re all on the same page now.

And I feel a little less alone.  :)
