A Mom’s Counting Primer [A Poetic Parody]

blocks 123

So, a couple of weeks ago I had these nagging words in my head that needed to be written down.

It really started as a kid’s book.  Some sort of humorous counting primer.

It didn’t stay a kid’s book long.

It became a poem for moms who know what it’s like to count.  You know, the you’d-better-do-what-I-told-you-to-do-before-I-get-to-three type of counting.

But the mom in the poem is nice.  She goes up to ten.  (Kind of.)

I recently joined Wattpad, so I posted the poem there.  Grab a glass of wine and head on over to check it out (seriously, I think the whole thing is shorter than this blog post).  Then please share it with all the moms you know that could use a little “time out.”  ;)

Here’s the poem:

Summer Fun Tip: Swim Diapers

Summer Fun Tip: Swim Diapers Can Be Washed! #momtips #frugalmom

Did you know you can wash swimmy diapers??

Because I feel like this is something EVERY Frugal Mom oughta know.

I remember reading it somewhere – a Facebook post I think – and I was a little wary at first.

But now I’ve done it tons of times and I’m so grateful I figured this out.  Cause those things are expensive!!

Of course, my youngest is at the point where I don’t really need to worry about this much longer, but if your Little One is like my little girl, who finds the pool, eh, “relaxing,” you’ll need swim diapers “just in case” much longer than you were hoping to have to buy them….

Anyway.

In the photo above you can see an example:  the one on the left has been through the washing machine and the dryer and the one on the right is straight out of the bag and unworn.  Almost the same, huh?

Here are a few tips:

* If there’s poop in the swim diaper:  throw it away.  Right in the trash.  That one’s done for.

* If there appears to be some pee in the diaper, it can still be salvaged by rinsing it out with the garden hose or something similar before washing.

* If there is no pee OR poop in the diaper after your child wears it to swim, I would still wash it before letting them wear it again.  It’s like a pair of panties and you don’t wear your underwear twice without washing them, do you?  Especially not when there’s chlorine involved.

* To launder these babies:  wash and dry just like they’re clothes.  I would say like bathing suits, but I don’t put those in the dryer.  But swim diapers don’t shrink like bathing suits do, so go ahead and toss them in the dryer.  Wash them with your regular load of clothes and dry them with your regular load of dryer-safe clothes.  If they’re still damp after drying, you can hang them up for a while.

I’ve never tried washing these more than twice – but hey, that’s still 3 wears out of something I used to throw away after using once.  Which was bad for the environment and bad for my wallet.  Let me know how they hold up if you’ve washed them more than that!

Or, you could use a reusable swim diaper.  But hey, when family and friends give me free disposable swim diapers, I’m gonna get as much use out of them as I can first.

RoamingRosie’s 2014 in Review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.

And as you can see, my 2014 was pretty good.  Certainly not great, but okay.

Mostly posting this as motivation for myself to have an awesomer 2015.  Here’s to a new year!  :)

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 24,000 times in 2014. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 9 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

Matching Personalized Monogram Gifts

Blue and White Chevron Matching Personalized Monogram Gifts

I love the idea of being able to set up an entire meal with personalized dishes and matching accessories.

Which is what these chevron patterned monogram gifts are for!  From the placemat and coasters for your breakfast at home to the lunchbox and water bottle for your lunch at the office, these are a great way to start any meal.

They’re great for kids, too!  I mean, sure, you might first think of yourself, or even your teenage daughter/granddaughter when you first look at them, but young kids also love to see their names on things – even when they’re just starting to learn their letters.  And not all of us want to have blinding primary colors or gigantic faces of Elmo plastered all over our kitchens.

We have to look at this stuff every day, too, amiright?

{Okay, okay… my girls have Jake and the Neverland Pirates placemats.  I admit it.  BUT, I love Jake, too.  :) }

Because we should be able to surround ourselves with things we love.  And things that no one will mistake as not being ours.  Especially if you’re living in a dorm or working in an office where your stuff keeps walking off…

Anyway, aside from the easy personalization, the other thing I love about this line of monogrammed gifts is that they come in different colors.  Below you’ll find the links for the blue, green, and pink versions!

Please share with me which are your favorites!  And don’t forget to also share them on Facebook and Pinterest!

Red & White Chevron Monogrammed Christmas Decorations

Red and White Chevron Monogrammed Christmas Decor

I’ve got holidays on the mind.  We’ve been doing tons of Halloween and Thanksgiving projects, but I’m always thinking ahead to Christmas… even tho it’s not quite Halloween yet.

It’s my favorite time of year.  :)

And with Christmas on my mind, some of the newest products I’ve made for my Joyful Expressions store include these red and white chevron monogrammed Christmas decorations.

The Red & White Chevron Monogram Tree Skirt is 44 inches in diameter and available in brushed polyester, faux linen, or coral fleece.

The Red & White Chevron Monogram Christmas Stocking are available in the same fabrics as the skirt, with your choice of sizes:  9 x 16 inches or 12 x 20 inches.

The Red & White Chevron Monogrammed Pillow come in polyester or cotton, and the sizes range from 16 inch or 20 inch square to a 13 x 21 inch lumbar pillow.

The Red & White Chevron Monogram Dated Photo Ornament has a monogram and personalization on the front, that includes the year, and a photo on the back.

The Red & White Chevron Monogram Ornament is about 2 x 2.5 inches and can be plated in either silver or gold.

Plus, they’re also available in silver:

You Should Be Writing

You Should Be Writing

This is a reminder I constantly need.

Luckily, I’m not the only person who gets distracted.

Or, should I say, the only fangirl who gets distracted.

So I’ve put together this collection of posters for motivation.

You’re welcome.  :)

A Strange Discovery

Homeward Bound Movie Ticket Stubs

I was sorting through some boxes and found a few old wallets of mine.

Most of them I kept to give to my girls to play with.  What little girl doesn’t love a pink wallet with a picture of Mickey and Minnie?

{I’d use it myself if it had more pockets.}

Darn near threw one of the old wallets into the “donate” box without looking through each and every pocket and slot.  On second inspection, I found some cash.

That’s would have made someone’s day at Goodwill.

Anyway, the strangest thing I found, aside from the vintage-looking 90’s bills, was this pair of movie ticket stubs.

Homeward Bound??

And does that say February 27, 1993???

Why in hell had I saved these?  I almost never purposefully save movie stubs, so why these?

Truth be told, Homeward Bound is a good movie.  I think.  I haven’t been able to watch it since I was a kid, but I know it was something everyone loved.  And with the good old fashioned wholesome fun of a ragtag team of two dogs and a cat on a journey across America, it became something that our middle school teachers loved to show during the classes that took place right before a vacation or break.

And, inevitably, try as I might to ignore the movie, I would fail to block it out.  And I would cry.  Profusely.

Silently sobbing and cursing my teachers as I wiped away the snot with rough, brown recycled paper towels.

I would spend the next couple of hours sporting a red, puffy, tear-stained face as I progressed through the school day.

Because it was never shown at the end of the day.  Oh no, only near the beginning, to make absolutely certain that I’d sniffle my way through as many classes as possible.

I came to hate the movie.

So it did surprise me a bit to find those ticket stubs wedged into the slot of one of my old wallets.  What were they doing there?

And WHY did the movie only cost $3.25???

Maybe because it was a “dollar theatre” matinee, but after the shock and the shudder that the movie title always brings to me faded, that was what drew my attention.

If movies were still three bucks, I’d go a heck of a lot more often.

But I still wouldn’t keep the ticket stubs.

Frozen Hairstyles of Elsa and Anna

Okay, I’m kind of terrible at styling hair, but these how-to pictures got me pretty excited.

I think I might be able to at least manage Elsa’s braid.

Anyway, the pics were shared by Zulily, who is having a sale on Frozen items starting today.  And my little girls LOVE to play dress up, so I’m pretty excited about all the outfits.  Click here to get up to 60% off of Disney’s Frozen products!  (This is an affiliate link – I’ll get some compensation if you purchase something, so many thanks in advance!)
